 تعد صناعة الأثاث الخشبي من الصناعات الهامة التى تشکل إحدى الرکائز التى تقوم عليها التنمية الاقتصادية ، لأنها تساعد على دفع عجلة التنمية وبناء هيکل اقتصادي وطني قوى، بالإضافة إلى دورها الاجتماعى التى تقوم به فى الحد من مشکلة البطالة ، من خلال توفير فرص العمل، وبالتالى تحول المجتمع من مجتمع استهلاکي إلى مجتمع إنتاجي، وتعد صناعة الأثاث الخشبي بقرية کتامة نموذجاً للصناعات الحرفية ، وهى إحدى أشکال الصناعات الصغيرة التى تعتمد على العمل اليدوي المهارى فى المقام الأول، وقد توطنت تلک الصناعة بقرية کتامة منذ منتصف ثمانينيات القرن العشرين ، وأصبحت من أهم الصناعات الحرفية التى تشتهر بها القرية ،حتى أطلق عليها القلعة الثانية لصناعة الأثاث فى مصر بعد مدينة دمياط . وقد جاءت الدراسة في ستة عناصر تناول الأول تطور صناعة الأثاث الخشبي بقرية کتامة ، بينما تناول الثانى العوامل الجغرافية المؤثرة على توطن صناعة الأثاث الخشبي بقرية کتامة ، ورکز الثالث على التوزيع الجغرافي لمنشآت صناعة الأثاث الخشبي طبقاً لنوع النشاط بقرية کتامة ، وعرض الرابع الأثار التنموية  لصناعة الأثاث الخشبي بقرية کتامة ،وناقش الخامس بعض الخصائص الديموجرافية لعمال صناعة الأثاث الخشبي بقرية کتامة ، وخصص السادس لدراسة المشکلات والعقبات التى تواجه صناعة الأثاث الخشبي بقرية کتامة مع اقتراح بعض الحلول لها.
The wooden furniture industry is one of the industries the mission that constitutes one of the pillars upon which the development is based economic; it helps to advance development and build structure strong national economy. In addition to its social role, it is doing in reducing the problem of unemployment, by providing opportunities the job. Thus, the society transformed from an initiatory society to productive society; The wooden furniture industry is in the village of Kutama amodel for craft industries, which is one of the forms of industries the small one that depends on skilled manual labor in the first place.this industry has been established in the village of Kutama since the eighties of the twentieth century, and became one of the most important industries the craftsmanship for which the village is famous, until it was called the second castle for the manufacture of furniture in Egypt after the city of Damietta.the current study deals with six elements. The first element deals with the development of thewooden furniture industry in the village of Kutama. While the second element deals with the geographical factors influence on the settlement of the wooden furniture industry in the village of Kutama. The third element focused on the geographical distribution of wooden furniture industry facilities according to the type of activity in the village of Kutama. The fourth element presented of the monuments development for wooden furniture industry in the village of Kutama. The fifth element discussed some demographic characteristics of wooden furniture industry laborers in the village of Kutama. The sixth element was designated to study of problems and obstacles which facing the wooden furniture industry in the village of Kutama with some suggestions for its solutions.
